Captain America: Civil War is now officially in theaters (as of the time of this writing), so that means that directors Joe and Anthony Russo can shift gears and focus on the next film they’re set to direct in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Infinity War part 1.

They’ve said countless times that the actual number of heroes that they plan to have appear in the film will be more than we’ve ever seen in any superhero movie to date. We’ve yet to see a lot of the heroes that they plan to introduce, but we know that at some point or another, Carol Danvers, or Captain Marvel will be among the herd. Her solo film is set to release early in 2019 but according to the Russo Bros., we’re going to see the heroine earlier than that.

While at an event at the Smithsonian Institute for Marvel, the brothers let it slip that there were plans to include Captain Marvel in the third Avengers’ film. Obviously fans were excited to hear this news, but the Russos quickly tried to redirect the information when asked to confirm their previous statement by saying “Um….Captain Barvel. Totally different character.”

Clearly joking, the news of Captain Marvel being included isn’t exactly “shocking”. It seemed like things were headed in that direction. It’s just going to be interesting what type of story they come up with for her, seeing as how an origin story will be out of the question due to the fact that her solo film comes out a year after Infinity War.

Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled to release on May 4th, 2018; Captain Marvel on March 8th, 2019.
