Don’t you guys love it when you hear an announcement, then months later it turns out that initial announcement was false? Yeah, neither do we.
Let’s backtrack a bit. Zendaya was first revealed to be playing Michelle, an original character in Sony and Marvel’s upcoming film, Spider-Man: Homecoming. Then a couple of months passed, and the internet went crazy when they found out Zendaya was reportedly playing none other than Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker’so longtime love interest. Zendaya herself never came forward with a statement denying that she as playing the character, so we were all left to believe it was true. Until now, anyway.
While recently speaking with ET online, Zendaya made this statement:
“Well, I’m not Mary Jane unfortunately, but I am in the movie which is exciting. My character’s name is Michelle, if that’s what everybody wants to think. I’m gonna let people think whatever they want to think.”
Well that was something of a bummer, because I for one was definitely looking forward to seeing her in that role. Nonetheless, we’re still excited that she’s in the movie. We didn’t hit the jackpot, but we’ll just have to wait and see what “Michelle” brings to the table.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled to release on July 7th, 2017.
