Last summer, Marvel ended their second phase with Ant-Man, the origin film for the smallest Avenger. Also one of the funniest.
The film did fairly well commercially and critically, and it’s already been announced that a sequel is on the way in a couple of years. Ant-Man and The Wasp is the official title for the sequel, and it’ll be out slightly before Avengers 4 ( official title TBA).
We were introduced to Wasp’s character in Ant-Man (via Evangeline Lilly), but we never really saw her character become a superhero or really develop more than just a helping hand. But according to an interview Lilly had with , we can expect to see her character blossom in the next Ant-Man film, and maybe even more in the fourth Avenger’s movie:
“I’m excited because its essentially going to be, um, the origin of the Wasp. Of course, we’re going to see the Wasp for the first time take on the mantle, and put on the suit, and fly about, and do her thing. Following that one, there’s an Avengers series coming out, I believe its a two parter, and, um, the Wasp won’t be in the first part, she’ll be in the second part because they want to preserve that reveal for Ant-Man and the Wasp.”
So it looks like we’re getting a lot more Wasp in the upcoming years. Or just Wasp in general, since we never got any of her in Ant-Man. A relationship with Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang was teased at the end of the film, and we all know Ant-Man and Wasp we’re together in the comics, so it’ll be interesting to see where that relationship goes in the sequel, as well as in Avengers 4. But more than anything, we want to see Wasp kick ass.
Ant-Man and The Wasp is scheduled to release on July 6th, 2018; Avengers 4 on May 3rd, 2019.
