Hugh Jackman Speaks on ‘Different Tone’ in Wolverine 3

Hugh Jackman took on the role of James Howlett aka Logan aka Wolverine back in 2000, and now, sixteen years later, he’s getting ready to say goodbye to the mutton chops and put the claws down for good. Wolverine 3 (still waiting on that real title) is releasing in the first quarter of next year, and it will be Jackman’s last entry as the character on the big screen.

While people are definitely sad to see him go, it definitely does feel like the right time for Wolverine to be laid to rest in the cinematic world, or if rumors are true, passed down to another lucky actor (or actress). But before that even happens, the newest film has to hit theaters.

There’s plenty about this entry in Wolverine’s journey that’s different already. The biggest thing being that this will be the first R-Rated Wolverine story. Second being this film will apparently take place some time in the future, seeing as how Jackman is playing an older version of Logan this time around. However, that’s not all that’s changing according to Wolverine himself. In an interview with ET (no, not the alien), Hugh discusses some other stuff that we can expect to be different this time around:

“I just saw Jim Mangold today, he’s editing away and finishing that, I’m very very excited about it. There’s going to be some stuff coming out in the next week or so, that’s all I’ll say. I’m really trying to, like I’m not good, I’m the kind of person who tells everybody everything. Basically, it’s going to be very different, very different in tone, and hopefully different to anything we’ve done.”

Okay, well that’s quite vague. The films have usually been somewhat upbeat, but with moments of darker, more serious scenes, but since it’s been given that R-Rating, can we expect a grim and brutal film all the way through? We surely hope so.

It’s been said this story will be loosely based off of the graphic novel Old Man Logan, and will also usher in X-23 as the new Wolverine in some way, so it seems like they’re trying a lot of huge things this time around. We just hope it gives us an entertaining film and a proper farewell for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.

Wolverine 3 (Official tittle TBA) is scheduled to release on March 3rd, 2017.
