[SLIGHT spoilers for Agents of SH.I.E.L.D. season 4]
The season premiere of AOS Season 4 made it’s way to the small screen just about a week ago, and boy was it intense. ABC clearly took advantage of the later time slot to introduce some darker, more gruesome content, and we thank them for it. The inclusion of Ghost Rider in this season was very well received, and Marvel may be taking advantage of that to introduce another vengeance-seeking anti hero into the show during this season.
New York Comic Con took place this past Thursday, and during the event, it was announced that Jon Bernthal, the actor who plays the Punisher in the MCU, would only be in attendance for two days of the event due to his production schedule with Netflix. That wouldn’t seem suspicious if Marvel Television didn’t debut the first episodes of AOS season 4 with multiple comic book creators there, including Gerry Conway, the creator of the Punisher. On top of that, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb stated “You will understand why I brought all of these people here later in the season, and why it makes sense.” during the event.
Yes, this is kind of a reach, but it kind of adds up. While Jon Bernthal could be too busy to attend all of NYCC due to working on The Punisher’s series for Netflix, it seems more likely that he’d be making a small appearance on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. And even though it was explained that Bernthal was pulled away due to Netflix, we have to state that Marvel TV and ABC worked on Daredevil and are working on The Defenders, which are both Netflix series, so there’s nothing saying that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. couldn’t be considered the Netflix property that he was pulled away for since they’re all connected. The puzzle piece are coming together.
Of course, there’s the problem that comes with explaining what The Punisher would even be doing in LA, which is where AOS is based, since he operates in New York. We don’t doubt Marvel would be able to come up with some logical explanation though. That is, if this is even happening. We want it to, and the new darker theme would compliment the Punisher’s style pretty well, but what do you guys think? Let us know in the comment section below!
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs on ABC every Tuesday at 10pm CST.
