There’s been a quite a bit of discussion on the web regarding the live-action adaptation of the popular 90’s anime film Ghost in the Shell, and not really any of it has been good. Besides the fact that this is another sacred anime being turned into a western production (possibly for some quick cash), there’s also the issue of Scarlett Johansson, one of the biggest names in Hollywood right now, being cast as the main character, who is very clearly Asian in the animated films and shows, as well as the manga. But of course, Hollywood doesn’t mind the white washing, and they’re going forward with the project. They’ve even given us not one, but five very short, but very interesting clips from the film. Check them out for yourself:
Yeah, super short like we said. It seems like the’re going in an artistic and abstract direction with this film, and we can’t deny that that looks intriguing enough to warrant a viewing from us. We’ll just have to wait for an official trailer, and then wait for the actual film to see how well it holds up.
Ghost In The Shell is scheduled to release on March 31, 2017.
