Marvel Studios is pretty much in a position that they could probably get just about any actor/actress to sign on for a role in one of there films, including some big Hollywood names. Kurt Russell has a role in Guardians of the Galaxy, Benedict Cumberbatch is playing Doctor Strange. Then, we have Black Panther who managed to sign on some pretty new but very talented stars, like Michael B. Jordan (Creed) and Lupita Nyong’o (The Force Awakens).
Jordan is playing a villain named Erik Killmonger, and Nyong’o is playing Nakia of the Dora Milaje, the extremely dangerous but equally kickass all-female team of personal bodyguards to the Black Panther. The news was officially announced at San Diego Comic Con a few months back, and Nyong’o hasn’t been hiding her excitement for the role in any way.
She recently spoke to Toronto Sun, who asked her about the part. Of course, she told them she had a stack of Black Panther comics to prepare and is “geeked out,” but later she further expressed her excitement and dedication to the role and the movie:
“This is another one of those movies that I feel very passionate about and excited about and I’m looking forward to learning all the stunts and the physical skills I need to play Nakia and be a member of the Dora Milaje (the bodyguards of the Black Panther).”
It’s good to know she’s not afraid to learn those move and get physical for her role. It seems like many actors are pushing for that more in Hollywood, and we’re all for it. Honestly though, we’re excited to see Lupita and the rest of this talented cast take on their comic book counterparts when Black Panther hits theaters in two years.
Black Panther is scheduled to release on February 16th, 2018.
