There’s a lot of anticipation for next year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, the sequel to the unexpectedly popular Marvel film, directed by James Gunn. There are many aspects of the first film that people thought made it great, such as the diverse group of individuals, the incredible soundtrack, and the fact that even though this film is within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there was no immediate connection to the other films at all. Well one could argue that Thanos connects them, but hardly, so we’ll forget he exist at the moment.
A question that many people had in regards to this film’s place in the MCU is what time period does it take place in? Well, Guardians director James Gunn took to Facebook and hosted a Live Q&A, and among many topics (including those of his cat), he reveals just how far after the first film Vol.2 will be:
“I think we’ve given out the people that are in Guardians 2 that we’re going to give out so far, uh, which is we know Baby Groot is in the movie and that he’s not an adult. We know that the movie takes place 2 months after the first movie ends. We know that Ego is the father of Peter Quill, that he’s an ancient being. He’s played by Kurt Russell. We know, what else do we know, we know that Mantis is in the movie. We know that Yondu and Nebula have more important roles in the film. We know that Sylvester Stallone is playing someone in the film. We don’t know who. So those are kind of the things that we know that are out there right now, and as time goes on we’ll let you know a little bit more.”
Just a mere two months? That’s a really short amount of time if you think about it. We’re going to assume the films are based on real time, and that would mean the first Guardians took place after the events of Captain America: Winter Soldier, and since the second film is only two months later, that would mean Guardians 2 is set way before the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War. That’s definitely going to put things in perspective for us moviegoers. After everything we’ve seen since Guardians, it’ll be interesting to see how they take us back to that cosmic world with a new story. We just hope it”ll be as interesting as the first.
Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2 Is scheduled to release on on May 5th, 2017.
