GOTG Vol.2 James Gunn Discusses Star-Lord and Ego

EGO

A lot of big news was dropped during the week of Comic Con, including the official announcement that Star-Lord’s father would be Ego The Living planet in Guardians 2, played by none other than Kurt Russell.

Some people were actually curious as to how James Gunn came to the conclusion that Kurt Russell is the one for this role, however during an interview with Empire it’s revealed he didn’t come up with the idea himself:

“He was actually not in my head initially, but one day Chris suggested him, and I would have been really disappointed if he’d said no. Hey, if you have to cast anything, Kurt’s a pretty good way to go.”

Kurt Russell has been in a bunch of films in his career, and he usually played characters that were literally oozing with swagger and intrigue, and from the way Peter Quill’s mother was talking about his father on her death bed, Russell is just the type of guy you’d assume she was talking about.

Quill’s dad has been described by James Gunn as “an ancient cosmic being who has been on the edges of the universe for eons.” Now a question people may have about the character of Ego is, “How the hell is Star-Lords dad going to be a cosmic living planet?” Well according to the lucky few who got to see the Guardians 2 footage at SDCC, his character was apparently in human form, and seen being reborn from an ‘egg-shaped glob’of some sort in from of Star-Lord. That’s cool. Some father-son bonding, i guess. We can’t wait to see this movie next year.

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2 Is scheduled to release on on May 5th, 2017.
