One of the films that was in the DCEU lineup to be turned into a live-action adaptation was Justice League Dark, which would feature the counterpart to the original team of heroes, except this team is composed of nothing but sorcerers and those who dabble in mystics or the occult in one way or another. Sadly this project – which Guillermo Del Toro was pushing for very hard – fell through. To an extent.
Fans who were looking forward to the project will be happy to know that the project is still in motion, but it’s being turned into an animated film instead. Some lucky moviegoers who were in attendance when Batman: The Killing Joke was in theaters got to see a sneak peek for this film first, but now it’s been released to the general public.
This 8 minute long sneak peak was comprised of the men behind the creation of the film basically explaining about the importance of this story being told. Here’s what was said by Mike Carlin, the film’s creative director:
“Justice League Dark is what it sounds like. It’s the dark side of justice. A group of supernatural heroes who band together loosely to take on occult threats, supernatural threats – threats that the real Justice League may be powerless against…The mainstream heroes are not the right guys for the job, These are not guys who go to meetings and sit around a table. They kind of appear and disappear when needed.”
The characters you can expect to see in this film are Zatanna, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Etrigan the Demon, Black Orchid, and John Constantine (who some fans will be happy to know is being voiced by Matt Ryan, who portrayed the character in the Constantine TV show). There will also be appearances from mainstream heroes like Batman and Green Lantern.

Justice League Dark doesn’t have an official release date yet, but it’s set to release on Digital HD, DVD, and Blu-Ray sometime closer to fall. We’ll let you guess know what transpires.
