2017 will introduce another live action manga/anime adaptation to the big screen. Ghost In The Shell is currently being produced over at DreamWork’s Pictures, and Scarlett Johansson is set to star in the film as the story’s protagonist, Mokoto Kusanagi who is a cyborg police commander. The actors that have been announced to appear in the film aren’t many at this current time, but it looks like now we can add another to the fray, and for some it’ll be a familiar face.
Rila Fukushima (Arrow, The Wolverine) has just been announced as another cast member in this film. Fukushima’s role in the film is currently unknown, but she’ll be one of the few actors in the movie who is actually Japanese, which is something this project has come under a lot of fire for in the media lately.
There was a lot of source material for the studio to choose from, for this film (seeing as how there’s three different manga stories, five films, and three different shows, but they stuck with the one from Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex, in which Mokoto and Section 9, the counter-cyberterrorist organization she leads, take on The Laughing Man: a master hacker and a cyber terrorist.
Ghost In The Shell is scheduled to release on March 31, 2017.
