Karl Urban Speaks on Skurge’s Story in Thor: Ragnarok

With Thor: Ragnarok on the way, fans have probably never been more excited for a solo film featuring the Son of Odin. Just recently, Marvel announced a few actors who would have some pretty big roles in Ragnarok, and one of those names was Karl Urban, who’s set to play Skurge The Executioner. In the comics, Skurge is something of a nuisance and an enemy to Thor, so what can we expect from his character in the films? Well, if nothing else, it’ll at least be a good character arc according to Karl Urban.

While speaking to IGN, Urban opened about why he took the role and why he was drawn to the story Skurge will have that we’ll be seeing in the film:

“I read a fantastic script that was action-packed and full of great characters. When I heard who was involved—and the cast list dropped yesterday—and [saw] the opportunity to work with Taika Waititi, who I think is one of the most brilliant directors coming through, I made the decision it was something that I wanted to be a part of.”

“The character is fantastic. He’s got a great arc to him. Obviously I can’t say too much about it, but I’m really thrilled to be a part of the Marvel universe and to be working on Thor: Ragnarok.”

So Urban took a break from the Star Trek film Universe that he’s involved in to play a villainous role in a Marvel film. We’re unsure how many appearances Karl Urban’s Skurge will have on the big screen, but if he’s anything like his comic book counterpart, he’ll be pretty hard to kill, meaning we should see his character in a few more films.

Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled to release on November 3rd, 2017
