Hugh Jackman has played the role of James Howlett/Logan a.k.a. Wolverine in literally every live action X-Men film that’s been released till this day. Wolverine 3 (unofficial title) is set to release in 2017, and it’ll be the last time Jackman will play the feral X-Man on screen. Of course, Wolverine is such a pivotal character in the X-Men franchise, so it’s almost expected to see an actor get recast for the role once Jackman hangs up the claws one last time. But who could possibly replace him? Well, Bryan Singer, the X-Men Franchise-helmer has a few ideas.
Fandango spoke with Singer, and apparently he has thought about moving forward with Laura Kinney, a.k.a. X-23, who is basically a female clone of Logan, and the current Wolverine in the main and current run of Marvel Comics.
“I have discussed that with the studio. I actually initially pitched the X-Force and the female.”
“Simon [Kinberg] is in the earliest script stage, so that’s kind of where that stands, and we’ll see how it evolves.”
Laura Kinney made her debut in X-Men: Evolution, the animated TV series. Following the death of Logan, she took up the Wolverine Mantle, and has been apart of the X-Men ever since. Her inclusion in the X-Force film would be interesting, but just like in the comics, whichever actress would potentially play her would have some huge shoes to fill. Singer isn’t completely sure he wants to move forward with that idea, so we’ll have to see what becomes of this.
X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled to release on May 27th, 2016.
Wolverine 3 is scheduled to release on March 3, 2017
X-Force is still in development and has no release date.
