Captain America: Civil War made it’s way to theaters just about a week ago, and moviegoers all got their first look at T’Challa a.k.a Black Panther in action on the big screen for the first time. Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of the Wakandan king was met with almost nothing but positive reviews, and all this did was create more excitement to see the character in his first standalone film.
From what we know, the Black Panther cast will be composed of mostly African or African American actors (90%, to be exact). From what we’ve actually seen so far, it looks like Marvel is gunning for some up and coming talent for the film, what with the casting of Chadwick Boseman as the titular character and the news of Lupita Nyong’o (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) also being looked at for a role. The most recent one, however, is the casting of Fantastic Four and Creed star, Michael B. Jordan.
There’s no doubt that Black Panther director Ryan Coogler had a pretty strong part in selecting Jordan for the film, seeing as how this is the third film they’ll be working on together (the other two being Creed and Fruitvale Station). Ironically, this is the second actor to play The Human Torch in a film that makes his way over to the MCU (the first being Chris Evans).
Jordan’s role in this film is still unknown, however some rumor have said that he’s going to be a villain of some variety, but we’ll have to see. One thing we DO know is that this news kind of discredits some statements made earlier today that there’s a possibility for a Fantastic Four sequel (yes, because we were all looking forward to another Fox-made FF film so bad).
What do you think of this casting news though? Excited to see Michael B. Jordan on another superhero film? Let us know in the comment section below.
Black Panther is scheduled to release on July 6th, 2018.
