The Force Awakens helped usher in a new era of Star Wars films and introduced us to some new and lovable – or not-so-lovable-  characters while doing so. Now, Lucasfilm is moving forward with a sequel to follow up the events of the new trilogy. After the events we last saw in Episode VII, fans can only wonder whats in store for us in Episode VIII. Luckily, John Boyega – the actor who played Finn – sheds a little light on that information for us.

While speaking to Variety at the Cannes Film Festival, Boyega opens up on what the tone and scale will be like in the sequel to The Force Awakens:

“It’s a different take, darker, bigger. Someone will say: ‘How do you get bigger than ‘Force Awakens?’ But it’s crazy.”

Good Question. We’re all wondering how they plan to top everything that happened in Episode VII and wondering how they’ll raise the stakes, so it’s anyone’s guess on exactly what’s going to happen in the film. Boyega commenting on the film being darker than it’s predecessor could be seen as positive news for die hard fans. One thing that The Force Awakens did differently than the original trilogy is include a lot more humor than usual, possibly because they’re under Disney’s production wing now. While it didn’t hurt the movie, some fans may prefer less humor and a little more lightsaber swingin’ next time around. Episode VIII is currently filming, so we’re just going to have to assume they’re whipping up a great sequel for all the fans.

Star Wars 8 is scheduled to release on December 15th, 2017.
