One of the best and also most schismatic components of Batman V Superman was Ben Affleck’s Batman, and the fact that he had already existed in that world for so long, battling the criminals of Gotham in his younger days when he was a bit more vigorous. This helped setup his place in this world without having to revisit his origin story, seeing as how most people know how that turned out anyway. It also helped moviegoers understand that since he’d been around a while, he had probably complied a pretty considerable amount of enemies. With the news of Ben Affleck returning to direct and star in a solo Batman outing, rumors have surfaced that claim we may see multiple of Batman’s rogues in this film.
Devin Faraci of Birth.Movies.Death claims to have sources that say “Affleck and Geoff Johns, who has been working with him on the film, want to make the definitive Batman film. They want to tell the ultimate Batman story, and to do so they’re going to bring in all the big guns. They’re going to have a big, sprawling Bat universe already in place.”
What does that mean? could this upcoming film turn out to be a loose adaption of the Arkham Asylum video games? Each game had a pretty wide variety of classic Bat villains in them, and there are still plenty of villains that we’ve yet to see brought to life on the big screen, and a few that we have seen, but they could be done some justice (we’re looking at you, Batman & Robin). We’ve seen action scenes that resemble those of the game franchise in BvS and those worked out fine, so who’s to say that making their story also resemble that would be a bad idea?
Devin Faraci is usually pretty spot on with the rumors he comes forward with, so we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt until the truth comes out. Until then, tell us which Batman villains you’d like to see in the new Batman film and who you’d like to play them in the comment section below.
The solo Batman film (not yet titled) has yet to be given a date.
