RUMOR PATROL: George Miller for Green Lantern Corps?

Premiere of 'Mad Max: Fury Road'

The DCEU has officially taken off this year since the release of Batman V Superman. While the film isn’t doing exactly well with critics and fans, it’s doing well enough financially (bringing in a total of $855 million worldwide so far), so we can expect Warner Bros. to keep dishing these films out at a steady rate. Each hero that’s going to be apart of the Justice League has had something of an introduction by now, except Green Lantern. Green Lantern Corps is the official name of the movie that will star one -if not multpile – of the intergalactic space cops. There’s not much known about this film so far, and that’s okay because it doesn’t come out until 2020. After the less-than-spectacular 2011 adaptation of Green Lantern staring Ryan Reynolds, it makes sense that Warner Bros. wants to take it slow this time around, carefully choosing the actors and who they want to direct the film. On the topic of choosing a director, it looks like George Miller is currently being eyed by WB.

Heroic Hollywood’s Umberto Gonzalez is the one bringing this rumor up and he shared what he’s heard on the topic:

“Let me tell you what I’m hearing – I know something, I heard something yesterday. The hot rumor is George Miller… Boom! George Miller is being rumored to direct the Green Lantern Corps movie, and I think it’d be perfect for him, are you kidding me? George Miller. Again, it’s just a rumor right now, I just literally heard this yesterday.”

Okay so obviously not a lot to go on and not a lot to back but that statement, but the rumors’ been thrown into the air now so of course we have to question the statement’s veracity. If this were to be true, it could be beneficial for Warner Bros. to get Miller to sign on to helm the film. After doing such a stand up job directing the critically acclaimed Mad Max: Fury Road, it’d be interesting to see what he could bring to a film like this. His expertise in filming visually stunning films would be very much needed to bring a new perspective on how the Green Lanterns would look in space. But at the end of the day, this is all just a rumor, and not a very credible one, so this will need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Green Lantern Corps is scheduled to release on June 19th, 2020.
