Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has been absent in the MCU since the events that took place in Avengers: Age of Ultron and he will also miss out on all the action in Captain America: Civil War, but he’s set to return to the heat of it all in 2017 when Thor: Ragnarok makes it’s way to theaters with the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) co-starring, making this third film a cosmic buddy-superhero adventure.
Along with the addition of Ruffalo’s Hulk, Tessa Thompson (Creed) has signed on with a multi-picture deal for the franchise. There’s not a lot of information available about Thompson’s role in the film. One thing we do know is that she’s set to be Thor’s new love interest in the third installment. That’s right, no more Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).
Now as to who Thompson will be playing specifically? That’s unknown, but it’s been reported (via deadline) that we can expect to see her in “a kind of superhero and will appear in other Marvel films as well.” Who could that be? Well, looking at Thor’s love interest from the comics, the most plausible options are The Enchantress, a powerful sorceress (she’s usually a villain, but who knows), or Brunhilde, a.k.a. Valkyrie, an Asgardian warrior Goddess.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige previously announced that we can expect a lot of casting and film announcements by the end of this summer, so we’ll likely know exactly who Tessa Thompson is playing by then.
Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled to release on November 3rd, 2017.
