Just when you thought we couldn’t get anymore comic book TV shows, we’ve got another one on the horizon.
Freeform, an ABC-owned TV station has just greenlit a series that follows the story of teenage runaway superheroes Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen, a.k.a. Cloak and Dagger.
For those unfamiliar with these characters, their origin begins when both Johnson and Bowen, two runaway teenagers from different backgrounds end up being experimented on by New York gangsters, and of course, said experiments lead to these two teenagers gaining superpowers. Bowen, a.k.a. Dagger gains the ability to create light daggers and has minimal healing capabilities, while Cloak gets connected to a darkness dimension that gives him powers of intangibility and teleportation – he teleports people into his cloak, badass- coupled with a constant hunger for light. Here’s the breakdown of the series:
The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love — Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.
ABC has a lot on their hands in terms of Superhero TV shows. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been going strong for three months, and is about to have it’s own spinoff series, Marvel’s Most Wanted. Agent Carter is on it’s second season, and the network is set to develop the first superhero sitcom, named Damage Control. And that’s not even mentioning the Marvel shows that are on or making their way to Netflix. It’s going to be interesting to see how Cloak and Dagger is going to fit in the MCU, so we’ll keep you guys updated as we here more announcements about the show.
Cloak and Dagger has yet to receive an official airing date.
