[Warning: this will contain minor spoilers for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice]
Batman V Superman was met with extremely mixed reviews after its theatrical debut, but regardless of that, Zack Snyder is returning to direct the first live action Justice League film. Many people have been wondering what the storyline in that film is going to be, and what villains we can expect to see. If you saw Batman V Superman, then there were MULTIPLE scenes -including the giant Omega symbol, and the scenes containing the mother box, which is Apokoliptian technology – that foreshadowed Darkseid’s presence in the universe, and made it seem as if this would be the first major villain the Justice League would take on in their film. However, it looks like we may have caught wind of a potential antagonist, but it may come as a slight surprise.
Heroic Hollywood’s El Mayimbe just dropped a video on his YouTube show Heroic Insider (skip to the 27:20 mark of the video to hear this info) , and in it he comments on some rumors he’s heard in regards to the storyline for the Justice League film:
Supposedly in Justice League, it’s a conflict, or war, with Atlantis early on in the movie…Supposedly they [Batman and Wonder Woman] go down to Atlantis. But Aquaman is not having any of it. And on top of that. Here is something cool. The Amazonians and Atlanteans don’t like each other. They have a thousand year old conflict.”
Any keen listeners will probably piece together that this conflict sounds similar to the one in the graphic novel Flashpoint Paradox, in which Wonder Woman leads the Amazonians into war against Aquaman and the Atlanteans. This would be an interesting property to test out on film, and there have already been rumors of the Flashpoint Paradox story being incorporated into the DCEU, so this just adds a bit more veracity to those statements. Also, if you remember a scene from BvS when Aquaman was shown destroying a camera while being filmed and angrily swimming away, him going to war with land dwellers – at least at the beginning – isn’t too hard to believe. Obviously, he’ll eventually stop being a jerk and join up with the rest of the League, but seeing as how no casting announcements for any major villain for the Justice League film have even surfaced as rumors, it’s looking pretty much like Aquaman may serve as the initial antagonist in that film.
As convincing as all this news looks, we have to keep in mind that at this moment they’re all still rumors, but as always, we’ll keep our ears to the ground and let you guys know what becomes of all this.
