Kingsman 2: Title, Synopsis, and Concept Art Revealed

Kingsman: The Secret Service released in 2015 and was received surprisingly well by critics and casual moviegoers alike. We’ve known for a while now that 20th Century Fox had green lit a sequel for the Mark Millar comic book film adaptation, and it looks like we’re finally getting some insight on whats going to go on with the film.

In an interview with Empire Magazine (transcribed by CBM), Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn explained their plans for the sequel. First of all, the official title will be Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and despite previous rumors, it seems unlikely that Colin Firth (Harry Hart in the film) will be returning to the film. In the interview, Vaughn makes this statement:

“I didn’t know if I wanted to direct this or not. I was worried about the villain. Spy films are only as good as their villains. Then one morning I woke up with the whole storyline in place, and a new villain plot.”

The film is set to partially take place at the Kingsman organization’s US equivalent, Statesman, which will be lead by a “swaggering, sharpshooting cowboy” named Jack  (actor TBA) and a woman named Ginger (who will be played by Hallie Berry). As well as a switch of venue, we’re being introduced to a new villain named Poppy (which will be played by Julianne Moore), and you can see the concept art of both the Stateman’s HQ and Poppy’s lair above.

When asked if this film will include another badass scene similar to the church scene in the first film, Vaughn said “You try not to read what people want, but they do want another church sequence. I have no reason for another massacre to happen. But I have other sequences you’ve never seen before.”  Some of the sequences we can expect to see this time around  includes a skiing sequence, a barroom brawl, robot dogs, one-armed henchmen, and the heroes being attacked by – and we’re quoting him on this -, “a massive f***ing frankfurter.”

….Yeah alright. We’ll just have to see how that plays out.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle is scheduled to release on June 16th, 2017.
