Amber Heard Cast as Queen Mera in ‘Justice League’ and ‘Aquaman’

Ever since the news was announced that there was an Aquaman to be made somewhere down the line, one major question that came with it was “well who’s going to play Queen Mera?”

Back in January it was teased that Amber Heard (Magic Mike XXL, Zombieland) was in negotiations to play the role of Aquaman’s love interest, and that she’d make her first appearance in Justice League Part 1, but there was never anything set in stone.

But now, there’s been official word from Heard herself that she’s playing the part, and in an interview with ET, she comments on how it was to try on Mera’s costume for the film:

It’s… interesting [laughs]. I’m wearing, um… it’s like, half suit of armor, half scales. I don’t know, it’s strange. But we’re in the process of building it now, so it’s coming along.”

Obviously, seeing as how Mera is part of a civilization that dwells under the sea, it’s expected that her costume is to have a few scales here and there, as well as Aquaman’s (Jason Momoa) costume too.

For those who don’t know much about Mera, she’s basically an Aquaman character, serving initially as a love interest for him, and then eventually the queen of Atlantis.  Her strength rivals Aquaman’s own, and she has the ability to bend water to her will.

It’s unclear just what her place will be when she debuts in Justice League Part 1 and just how substantial her role will be, but it’s an interest casting choice nonetheless. What are your thoughts on Heard portraying the Atlantean queen on the big screen? Let us know in the comment section below.

Justice League Part One is scheduled to release on November 17th, 2017.

Aquaman is scheduled to release on July 27th, 2018.
