Iron Fist: Finn Jones Confirmed to Star

Yes, you read this right. After what seemed like eternity and a half, we finally have an actor set to play Danny Rand in the Marvel/Netflix Series, Iron Fist.

There had been rumors for months that the show was being scrapped due to difficulties finding a solid actor for the role and also the trouble they’d have with fitting a character who’s abilities are centered around mystical martial arts in a universe of street-level, grounded heroes. However, Marvel finally decided to stop yanking our chains and give the people what they want, and that came in the form of the reveal that Finn Jones had been confirmed to play the titular character.

Iron Fist Executive Producer and Showrunner Scott Buck also took the time to explain why Finn was chosen for this role:

“Danny Rand is a very complicated character. He’s a billionaire New York Buddhist monk martial arts superhero who’s still trying to figure out what exactly that all means. Finn is able to play all these levels in such an honest, revelatory way that as soon as I saw him I knew he was our Danny.”

For those unfamiliar with Iron Fist, his comics followed the story of Danny Rand, a young boy who was brought into the mystical city of K’un L’un after being left for dead on the Tibet mountains by family friend-turned-enemy Harold Meachum. He later gets trained in the ways of mystics and martial arts, and later returns to New York city to avenge his family and battle evil as the masked vigilante, Iron Fist.

Finn Jones, is best known for his role as ‘Ser Loras Tyrell’, The Knight of Flowers, in the HBO series Game of Thrones. While he hasn’t had many  other well known parts, Jeph Loeb, Marvel TV overseer, made a statement in which he praises Jones’ abilities:

“Finn wonderfully blends confidence with vulnerability, making him the perfect choice as he struggles to find his place in the world. Now that we’ve found our Danny Rand, we’ve completed our principal cast for the upcoming Defenders on Netflix and we are thrilled to continue to show audiences unexplored corners of the Marvel Universe.”

According to some people over at Marvel, Finn seems to be great for the role. We’ll just have to wait and see how he performs when the show debuts, and later when all four Marvel/Netflix shows come together to create The Defenders.

What do you think about this casting choice though? Let us know in the comment section below.
