Last year there was a lot of news and speculation about Harrison Ford putting the fedora back on and reprising his role as Indiana Jones. There was even talks of rebooting the franchise and finding a younger actor to take Ford’s place. But there’s no need to get your panties in a bunch, it looks like we’re getting a fifth installment to the Indiana Jones franchise with Harrison Ford returning in the titular role, and Stephen Spielberg returning to direct.
Alan Horn, the Chairman over at Disney, and Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm, both stated that we could expect Dr. Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones to return to theaters sometime soon, and it looks like 2019 is the year we can see it happen. Following the news of the film finally coming out of production limbo, Horn had this official statement to make:
“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019. It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”
While the official title of the fifth film, and what the film will consist of itself are still unknown, fans can rest easy knowing that Ford isn’t ready to put the whip down just yet. And with Spielberg behind the camera to direct once again, it’ll be another great and classic Indy adventure.
Indiana Jones 5 (working title) is scheduled to release on July 19th, 2019.
