Fans that have kept up with the small screen side of of all the superheroics that have been occurring as of lately should be more than familiar with Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, thanks to The CW’s Arrow. Probably the most popular villain on the show yet, Deathstroke was eventually killed off, but not without Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen) expressing how much he himself wished for the character to return. It’s not hard to fathom that happening, seeing as how many characters have been resurrected at some point in that show. However, some recent comments from a few head honcos over at DC regarding the character’s future could be the only thing stopping this character from making a return to the series.
Marc Guggenheim, executive producer of Arrow, has already gone on to make statements about the likelihood of the DC Merc returning to the show:
“The character of Slade Wilson is currently tied up in another DC project…Waller is more likely.”
Waller being Amanda Waller (played by Cynthia Addai-Robinson), who was recently killed off in an episode of Arrow. But the announcement of Wilson being “tied up in another DC project” is interesting news. Everything is leaning towards the upcoming DC film Suicide Squad, which has made it difficult for Arrow to use other characters like Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and now possibly Amanda Waller (since the DC Television and DC film sides have no plans of crossing over). Deathstroke could be in the works to be used in Suicide Squad, or maybe that future Batman solo film. Also, to add more fuel to these rumors, there were words of Scott Eastwood playing Deathstroke in Suicide Squad (and supposedly a sighting of the name “Wilson” on Eastwood’s costume for the movie), but nothing too reliable regarding that has come to light, so take it with a grain of salt.
Regardless of if Slade Wilson makes his appearance in Suicide Squad or in the upcoming Batman solo outing, Guggenheims’s comments confirm that he’s off limits to the TV side of DC at this time, so any fan that was hopeful for anymore Arrow/Deathstroke action will have to keep holding their breath for the time being.
Arrow airs on The CW every Wednesday at 8/7pm CST.
Suicide Squad is scheduled to release on August 5th, 2016.
