RUMOR PATROL: Changes to Guardians of The Galaxy team?

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 was announced before the first film even made its way to theaters in 2014, and now it’s going to begin filming next month in Atlanta. One thing that made the first film so good was how well writer/director James Gunn was able to formulate a cast that blended together so well and all complimented each other’s personalities. However it looks like now he’s looking to build on that and add even more characters to this outrageous group of individuals this time around.

There have been three different characters whose names have been circling the internet as potential inclusions to the team of Guardians. These Characters are Yondu (Michael Rooker), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and newcomer Mantis (to be played by Pom Klementieff). The only one of those who is guaranteed to be on the team is Mantis, as she was rumored to be in the film back in October. It’s pretty much confirmed that we can expect to see Yondu in the film, since the story this time around is going to have something to do with Star-Lord/Peter Quill’s father, and Yondu had some type of relationship with him in the past, but it doesn’t seem very likely that’ll he’ll join their team in this film since he is still in charge of the Ravagers. We can just expect to see the Guardians and Ravagers either team up or fight each other at some point in the movie. As for Nebula, it would make more sense to see her join the Guardian’s roster, seeing as how she is sisters with Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and they both share a hate for their father, Thanos. Also, considering she was something of a key player in the Infinity Gauntlet comic book event, her inclusion into a bigger role in the MCU wouldn’t be that much of a surprise. We’ll just have to wait and see if James Gunn gives us a solid casting list so we can put the rumors to rest and just worry about how these characters will be able to defeat the next cosmic threat that comes their way.

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2 is scheduled to release on May 5th, 2017.
