In The DC Dawn of the Justice League special that aired on The CW tonight, there was a lot of stuff packed into it. We got a new Suicide Squad Trailer, some exclusive footage of Wonder Woman, and some looks at some Justice League concept artwork. Speaking of the Justice League, it’s recently been announced that there’s a new member to be included in their already packed lineup. Or maybe..members?
During the Special, Geoff Johns, DC’s Chief Creative Officer, revealed that we can expect to see at least one Green Lantern, if not the whole corps., in the upcoming Justice League film. Speaking on the topic of the characters being included into DC’s Extended universe, Johns says this:
“Man of Steel introduced Superman and Batman v Superman introduces Batman, but it’s not just them. It introduces Metropolis to Gotham and all these other characters….We’ve been to ancient Greek mythology, we’ve been to the past and future with the Flash, we’ve been to the digital world with Cyborg. We still got to go to space. So the Green Lanterns and the Green Lantern Corps are coming to join the Justice League universe.”
Following Johns’ mention of the Green Lanterns, multiple images of Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and other Lanterns were shown, to possibly give us an idea of who we’ll be seeing in the film.
While it’s clear that we can expect at least one Green Lantern to join the ranks of the Justice League, it’s unclear who it will be. And some people may be confused as to why Warner Bros. has already released some concept art of the team as a whole without one of the members present (so actually, not “as a whole” i guess..), but seeing as how there’s been no announcements of any Lanterns being cast, it makes sense and looks like we wont know for some while. Still, this is good news. Each Green Lantern is unique and would make a great contribution to the team. We’ll just have to wait and see which one/ones will make the cut.
Justice League: Part One is scheduled to release on November 17th, 2017.
Green Lantern Corps is scheduled to release on June 19th, 2020.
