There has recently been a decent amount of news for the followup film to X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse. A few weeks back, we found out that a trailer for the film would be coming out “soon” (via director Bryan Singer’s Instagram), however we now know that the trailer is coming out with The Force Awakens in theaters (which means we’ll get it 30 days from now, as of the time this is being written) . Following that, we found out what Quicksilver’s role in the movie would be in the film. You can read about that in the link provided above. Now, there’s new information regarding an X-Men film though, and it actually isn’t about Apocalypse.
According to Journal De Montreal, the source who also so kindly provided the news that Apocalypse was returning to Montreal to get some re-shoots in, has now reported that a new X-men film will being to shoot in 2017, and of course Bryan Singer is returning once again to helm this project. They got this news from Michael Trudel, the head honcho over at Mel’s Studio. He’s the one who helped Fox secure their third X-Men production for the Montreal-based production house, a location they enjoy shooting the films at. Trudel made this statement while speaking to JDM:
“It was a miracle that we managed to attract a movie X-Men in Montreal in 2013. To convince Fox to return for a second and now a third is simply amazing… It’s always great news for our industry when we welcome this kind of production. We talk about films which have budgets of more than $ 200 million. A big production like X-Men generates direct and indirect economic benefits of hundreds of millions of dollars and makes work more than 2,000 Québec technicians. “
There hasn’t been any serious details released about the celluloid, rather than the fact that it’ll be released in 2018 and some of the filming will be in Montreal. We aren’t sure if James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, or Michael Fassbender’s characters will be returning this time around, although it seems somewhat likely. We could also expect to see this younger generation of the X-Men in this new film too, possibly at least. Singer had said before that there would be a followup film to Apocalypse, and seeing as how that movie is going to be the one that ends and also restarts X-Men movies to date, the newly announced movie could bring in characters like the New Mutants, Gambit, and Deadpool, who are owned by Fox as well, and are also set to receive their own movies pretty soon.
Apocalypse and the new Wolverine film (Hugh Jackman’s final one… sadly) are setting up the end of an era for X-Men films, but those movies are still going to go on, so hopefully this 2018 release will pave the way for a new generation of X-Men to take up the mantle.
This new and untitled X-Men film has yet to receive an official release date, but is currently scheduled to release in 2018.
X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled to release on May 27th, 2016.
