Doctor Strange Set Photos and Story Details Revealed

It looks like after weeks of prep work and planning, Marvel’s Doctor Strange has finally begun filming certain scenes in Nepal. And of course, since director Scott Derrickson and crew decided filming should take place in public locations, unofficial set photos were bound to surface.

In the photos, we see Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange in Nepal, looking kind of rough and sporting a scraggly beard. This scene is obviously going to take place after the accident that will lead Strange to seek out the Ancient One. Also in these photos, we get our first look at Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, a man who will eventually be a villain Strange has to take on. You can view the images here:

We also have a video of the filming taking place via Youtube. There might be a language barrier for most viewers though if you were trying to understand what was being said in the video, as it seems they are speaking what seems to be Newar, a language common to the land (don’t quote us on that though):

As we already know, Doctor Strange will be an origin story – the first one in phase three actually. It seems as though the team behind this project is taking many cues from the source material and staying true to the Sorcerer Supreme as we’ve come to know him. We’re going to see Benedict Cumberbatch take on the role as Stephen Vincent Strange, an extremely gifted and extremely arrogant surgeon who loses the use of his hands after an accident. After exhausting every conventional option, he goes on a mystical journey in search of the Ancient One (to be played by Tilda Swinton), the one who will eventually be his guide into the mystical arts, and lead him to become the titular character.

As well as the photos, it looks like a plot of the film as well, via Latino Review. According to sources provided to LR, they’ve reported that “The ‘Doctor Strange’ movie actually starts much earlier than anyone expected, opening in 1968 Kathmandu where some Zealots of dark magic manage to open a portal to another dimension. Leading them is a character named Kaecilius, a name taken from a character associated with Baron Mordo in the Marvel Comics.”

Kaecilius is the name of a man who works for Baron Mordo, and this “other dimension” that was spoken of is most likely going to be the Quantum Realm (aka the “Microverse” in the comics), which was previously explored in Ant-Man.

LR further explains that Strange will have an “encounter with magic (and sub-atomic particles) leads him on a journey to find the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), and when he finds her, she initially refuses to teach him.”

This seems to be the scene being filmed in Nepal at the moment. Of course, the Ancient One will eventually train Strange, and he will tame that scraggly beard into a more familiar looking one, and become Marvel’s master of the mystic arts we all know and love.

Doctor Strange is scheduled to release on November 4th, 2016
