Just about 2 weeks ago, Marvel Studios announced a slew of upcoming movies they plan to release within the year 2020. Along with that, they announced that Ant-Man would be getting a sequel, titled Ant-Man and The Wasp. The film is scheduled to release in 2018, and it looks like Marvel already made sure to secure Peyton Reed to direct the next chapter in Scott Lang’s new life as a superhero.
Peyton came to be the director of the first Ant-Man film due to Edgar Write leaving the position abruptly after some creative differences. They had a cast and script in place already, but he still managed to add his own creative touch, which is what made the movie such a success. Ant-Man brought in $178 million domestically, and a world wide total of $455 million, passing up the total earnings of the original Thor and Captain America films. That’s actually very good, especially considering this was a new IP and not a well known property by anyone. It’s honestly no surprise that Reed is returning to direct the sequel, and its likely that most people are happy with that decision as well. There has yet to be any word on a writer for the sequel, since it’s very likely that Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish will not be returning, so we’ll keep our ears to the ground until then. So far though, it looks like Ant-Man and The Wasp is in good hands.
Ant-Man and The Wasp is scheduled to release on July 6th, 2018
