RUMOR PATROL: Rachael McAdams to play Night Nurse in Doctor Strange?

Just next year, we’re going to be introduced to the supernatural side of the MCU with the November release of Doctor Strange, with Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role. It has long been announced that Rachael McAdams ( The Notebook, Sherlock Holmes: a Game of Shadows, Southpaw) would have a large and important role in the film, but it has yet to be said who or what she will be portraying. Now, a rumor has surfaced that she could be playing the role of Night Nurse, although it’s not the Night Nurse most of us are expecting.

For those not well versed in the history of Night Nurse, it is actually a title that was donned by three different women( four, if you include the Claire Temple version being played by Rosario Dawson in the Marvel/Netflix series Daredevil). The most common iteration of the character is Linda Carter, a nurse that makes it her duty to patch up and heal injured superheroes, after being saved by one. It would make sense for McAdam’s to be cast as this version of the Night Nurse, seeing as how Carter is best-known for the role, and she teamed up with Doctor Strange in a five-issue miniseries titled Doctor Strange: The Oath, which ended in the two forming a romantic relationship. However, according to a  report from Latino Review, she will be playing Christine Palmer, another version of Night Nurse.

The only explanation that makes sense to us as to why Marvel would pick Palmer over Carter as Night Nurse is for the sole fact that Christine’s version is a surgical assistant, and Since Dr.Stephen Strange is a surgeon before becoming the Sorcerer Supreme, it would make for an interesting relationship to explore in the film. Still, Marvel has said that they have “big screen plans” for Linda Carter’s character, so why wouldn’t they take advantage of her now? What other big, significant part could she be used for? As mentioned before, these are still rumors and nothing is confirmed, so Linda Carter’s Night Nurse could still be played by McAdams. As soon as we get the legitimate scoop on this, we’ll post it on the site. Until then, take these rumors with a grain of salt.

Doctor Strange is scheduled to release on November 4th, 2016.
